Today we are announcing that Janne Tarvainen, Managing Director of Finnair Cargo, will leave Finnair at the end of July to take up the role of Managing Director of Nordic Regional Airlines (Norra).

Janne will be succeeded by Mikko Tainio, who will begin as the new head of Finnair Cargo from the 1st of August 2019. Mikko has also been appointed to the leadership team of Finnair Operations.

Mikko Tainio currently serves as the Managing Director of Finnair Kitchen and has vast experience from different Finnair functions, particularly key positions in finance and ground operations.

Jaakko Schildt, Finnair’s SVP Operations:

“I would like to thank Janne for his great leadership during a time when Finnair Cargo transitioned to a new era, introducing its state-of-the-art cargo terminal, the COOL Nordic Cargo Hub, with modern tools and ways of working. I wish him all the best for his new role at Norra.”

Mikko Tainio:

“I am happy to see the great work that’s been done by the Finnair Cargo team in recent years, particularly the ambitious transformation of working practices and successful expansion of COOL terminal operations. I look forward to continuing the journey with the team towards achieving 1 million daily cargo kilos and sharpening the competitive edge that new technologies and processes give us.”

Finnair Cargo
Finnair Cargo is one of the largest air cargo carriers in the Nordic and Baltic region. It specialises in flying high-value items the short Northern route between East and West via its COOL cargo terminal, Europe's newest and most advanced air cargo facility.

The COOL Nordic Cargo Hub
Finnair Cargo’s new terminal at Helsinki Airport is named the COOL Nordic Cargo Hub because of its advanced temperature-control technology and modern sophistication. The 80M-euro cargo terminal was opened for full operations at the start of 2018 and ever since has been handling record volumes as demand for Finnair Cargo has continued to rise. COOL is the best example in Europe of how robotics and intelligent warehouse automation can target and improve efficiency in air freight. The COOL hub provides the levels of automation required to meet the demands of a paperless, more efficient digital future and is designed for the expansion of the A350 fleet that will double Finnair’s long-haul cargo capacity by 2020.
