e-AWB Single Process on Osaka route from 15 August 2019
Aug 7, 2019
Please note:
The e-AWB Single Process is only available for general cargo. Paper AWBs are still needed for special cargo with handling codes such as DG, PER, AVI, DIP, and VAL.
EAW/EAP special handling codes must be used correctly when booking shipments with AWBs.
What are the benefits of electronic air waybills (e-AWB)?
Faster Acceptance:
- Removes the need to re-enter AWB data at acceptance point
- Corrects errors before the arrival of shipment
Regulatory compliance:
- Enables advance cargo information filing to regulators
- Allows pre-shipment clearance, where applicable
Reduced operation costs:
- Removes the need to print and archive paper AWBs
- Minimises equipment maintenance and supply costs
Improved reliability:
- Removes the risk of missing documents, and errors
Enhanced visibility and transparency:
- Enables automation of shipment status updates
How to start sending electronic air waybills (e-AWB)?
1. Join the IATA Multilateral e-AWB Agreement. This agreement covers the terms and conditions found on the reverse side of traditional paper AWBs. Visit the IATA website for more details.
2. Transmit air waybill data before cargo acceptance at the terminal. Data can be delivered using IATA's EDI Cargo IMP (FWB) messages or via the SkyChain portal. This covers the front side of a traditional paper AWB.
3. Tender your shipments without paper AWB. For destinations where a paper AWB might be required due to regulatory, operational, or other reasons, we will print the paper AWB for you based on the air waybill data provided.
