Changes in Limits of Liability (changes in SDR) in effect from 28th December 2019

Jan 15, 2020

The International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO has reviewed the limit of liability for both passenger and cargo air transportation in the Montreal Convention 1999 (MC99) Article 22 from 19 SDR to 22 SDR per kilo for cargo destroyed, lost, damaged or delayed.

The new limit became effective on the 28th of December 2019.

The new limit has been updated to Finnair Cargo's general conditions of carriage:

11.7 Liability of Carrier shall not exceed the Convention limit or, if no Convention applies, 22 Special Drawing Rights, per kilogram of Cargo destroyed, lost, damaged or delayed. If, with the agreement of the Carrier, the Shipper has made a special declaration of value for Carriage as set forth in article 3.2 and has paid the supplementary sums applicable, it is agreed that any liability shall in no event exceed such declared value for Carriage stated on the face of the Air Waybill. All claims shall be subject to proof of value.
